Past Shows

Thursday, July 17th @ 8 p.m.

The summer is sizzling and satire is succulent. So slide on over to..... don't let me do that ever again.

We're back, with another killer line-up of brilliantly hilarious comedians. This month...

a

Pete Holmes - http://www.peteholmes.com/

He's been on over three seasons of VH1's "Best Week Ever" and VH1's All Access television programs as well as Comedy Central's "Premium Blend" and "Honesty" series. He's published cartoons in The New Yorker, and he can eat more chicken than any man on this earth.

a

Hannibal Burress - http://www.myspace.com/comedianhannibal

Our old friend from Chicago is back in town. He's been to Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham and a million other things. This guy is trippy as hell and will take you on a journey to the center of your mind.

a

Joselyn Hughes - http://joselynhughes.com

Formerly a classically trained dancer, Joselyn is another of our friends from Chicago. She must have been a really good dancer to leave it to become such a freakin' funny standup comic.

a

Will Franken - http://willfranken.com/

"Imagine a surreal-estate agent guiding you through some Escher-like architectural marvel, where each room is its own deeply funny, satirical dream, every passageway a verbal wormhole, and in the corner a shaggy high priest of nothing's-sacredness is fiddling with a bunch of knobs on what looks like an espresso maker. Suddenly you wake up and remember that the lanky comedic heavy-lifter who put the abs on absurdity with last year's Good Luck with It returns to the Marsh for a one-off. . . . The moral? Existence may be fleeting, but Franken is not to be missed."
- San Francisco Bay Guardian

a

Jesse Popp   - http://www.myspace.com/jwpopp

Representing the great state of Michigan, Jesse has been on Comedy Central's Premium Blend, runs a weekly show at the Beauty Bar on 14th Street (where you can get your nails done or whiskey neat.) and is busy gentrifying Bushwick. He's a friend of the show and freakin' funny.

a

Christopher Michael Wilkes -     http://www.myspace.com/lumpycomic

Christopher used to host Brainyaxe before he moved on to other things, including offering tours of New York City with a British accent, performing improv, and lobbying to turn the "Freedom Hole" into a wishing well. We're glad to have him back.

a

Sven Wechsler - http://svenwechsler.com

Your host and Brainyaxe producer, the official reining Mr. Lower East Side, a man who has been on the National Geographic Channel wearing a Nazi uniform for very little money. Hey, it’s showbusiness.

… and a couple surprises….

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday, June 19th @ 8 p.m.

It got hot dudes and dudettes. Really freakin’ hot and muggy. Hot enough for a lot of people to mention Global Warming in casual conversations about the weather. Besides polar bears dying, floods in Burma and the inevitable end of civilization as we know it, the most annoying thing about Global Warming is people bringing up Global Warming in casual conversations about the weather and then looking smugly like they’ve just marched in a protest against Hummers and panda murderers. Then they go back to watching Fox News and reality television….

Sorry. The heat is getting to us too…. we’re cranky and need another shower.

Anywho…

BRAINYAXE IS BACK!!!!!!

Thursday June 19th @ 8 p.m. - $5

@ The Bowery Poetry Club

308 Bowery, New York, NY 10012

What a killer line-up we have for this month….

asdf

Dan Allen – He’s bee on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, He wrote a book about Pawn Shops (His family owns a few of them (stay tuned for the T.V. show – seriously). Look for yourself. He’s got a website. http://taoofdan.com/

asdfa

Mark Normand – He’s fond of burgers and Larry David. He just recently returned from the New Orleans Comedy Festival.  We’ve heard people call him a sophisticated Jerry Seinfeld, and we agree.

dasfasdf

Jacqueline Novak – Look, we could have written her accolades here, but you should just go check out the “slideshow of praise” on her website http://jacquelinenovak.com/.

Remy Benice - At the time of publication, we don’t seem to have a photo of Remy, which is a shame, because he’s extremely handsome. He will be answering questions for the audience on behalf of the African American community (Really. He does that.). If you have something you’ve been dying to know about being black, black culture, black science or black magic, Remy will educate and illuminate, especially if you’re white and from the suburbs and just don’t have a clue.

Keith Alberstadt

http://www.keithcomedy.com/
- Keith Alberstadt is a "hidden gem" according to The Boston Globe. While on stage, he embraces his "inner dork" and proudly displays it with clever wit and subtle charm. He's been featured on CNN Headline News, Country Music Television and VH-1, along with being a regular on XM and Sirius Satellite Radio. He also writes for National Lampoon and regularly entertains U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sean Patton
http://www.myspace.com/seanpatton
- A strange life in the Big Easy made Sean who he is today, and that's a comedy acid trip. He sees the world through highly magnified glasses with crystal lenses, which is a prescription you can't get in contacts.. Check out this article in the Apiary for a more thorough understanding of what makes this guy tick. http://www.theapiary.org/archives/2007/11/character_sketc_1.html

Elon James White
http://elonjamesisnotwhite.com - Hailing from Brooklyn, Elon James White has performed through out NYC and has been featured in the New York Underground Comedy Festival, DC Comedy Festival and recently started working on “The Black Comedy Project”. Elon James founded the comedy production group “The Brooklyn Comedy Company” spawning successful comedy shows through out New York including the critically acclaimed “4 Shades of Black”.

He is also the reigning "Mr. Lower East Side" after winning the Mr. LES Pageant in a landslide victory this past December.

Lumpy Wilkes
http://myspace.com/lumpycomic

He’s opened for David Cross, Nick Swardson and Dave Attell. He’s heard regularly on XM Radio and writes about sports for 850 TheBuzz.com. He’s a member of the sketch group “The Stuff” at Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and he can be seen often guiding tours all over NYC on the double-decker busses, yet he still finds time to host our show. Our fearless leader through the maze of comedy, host Lumpy Wilkes will master the ceremonies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday Feb. 21st @ 8 p.m.

The elections are in full swing, assuming you take two years to take a swing, and, in which case, never invite us golfing or to play baseball. Everybody seems to have forgotten about Iraq. We’re drowning in a haze of the media’s self-serving masturbatory celebrity gossip, so why not have a beer and listen to us be sarcastic? (Yes, you can still watch the Oscars. They’re not until Sunday.)

This month’s line-up incudes…..

Katina Corrao - http://www.katinacorrao.com/

Nomintaded for an ECNY “Best Emerging Comic” this year. Also seen on, One Life to Live, The Late Show with David Letterman, Cash Cab, Conan O'Brien, Current TV and Saturday Night Live. Katina is a commentator on VH1's Best Night Ever and is a featured style comic in the weekly magazine, Life and Style. Watch her as Lisa in the HBO short, Daddy.

Ross Hyzer - http://rosshyzer.com/

He’s been seen at the HBO Comedy Festival in Aspen, his own show, Salty Cracks, hosted in Red Hook and all over NYC.

Ben Lerman www.benlerman.net

“ Lerman’s best asset is his stage persona... Take the droll presence of comedian Steven Wright, cross it with the deadpan delivery of Bebe Neuwirth’s Lilith on Cheers, give it a queer spin and you end up with Lerman.” —Jason A. Heideman, Time Out Chicago, December 13-26, 2007

Nate Bargatze - http://www.myspace.com/natebargatze

Originally from Old Hickory, TN and soon to be seen on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, Nate’s a friend of the show and going places. He also recently wrote and performed for the Video Game Awards on Spike T.V.

Sven Wechsler – http://www.SvenComedy.com

Brainyaxe Producer and perhaps the person writing this email. As seen all over New York and Chicago comedy stages and very sporadically on television.

Lumpy Wilkes – http://myspace.com/lumpycomic

Our fearless leader through the maze of comedy, host Lumpy Wilkes will master the ceremonies.

Will Franken
http://www.willfranken.com
"If any comedian today could be said to embody the spirit of San Francisco, it's Will Franken. . . . Franken slaps his audiences about the face and neck with his cerebral, surreal blend of sketch comedy mixed with stand-up. Unlike most professional funnypeople, who specialize in one kind of humor or another -- political, gay, Jewish, whatever -- Franken makes it impossible to know what you're going to get at his shows."
--SF Weekly

Dan Curry

Matt Ruby
After winning the National League Cy Young Award in 1987, a few
cracks developed in Matt ‘Bedrock’ Ruby. The Philadelphia reliever
contracted "walking pneumonia" in spring training and missed the

‘Bedrock’ Bedrosian.) Matt Ruby is a closer of hilarity. He hosts
Flying Carpet, a monthly comedy extravanganza, appears at clubs
around NYC, and is the author of comedy blog sandpapersuit.com.

Sara Schaefer
Sarah hosted AOL's on-line music/comedy show, The DL
